Golden Buy Local
Buying Local is not just a movement; it is a necessity! The economy in so many American towns is dominated by staple conveniences. The argument is that they provide goods that cost less.
In the long run they actually cost more. To keep a healthy economy we need to make sure we fix our selves first. Start at our door step. When the economy took a downturn Wal-Mart grew at the cost of diversified local businesses.
Everyone has heard the reasons to buy local before, but here is a more in-depth look:
1. Local businesses give back to the community. Dollars spent on at a locally owned business are more likely to be donated to local causes. 250% more money gets donated from local businesses according to sustainable connection.
2. Keeps communities unique. Diverse businesses help supply a community with a sense of identity. These unique communities draw in more visitors and potential residents.
3. Creates more jobs. Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and in our community, provide the most jobs to residents.
Encourage everyone you know to search locally for products. The cost to our community is too great to consider anything else. If you don’t think this is the case consider a community that loses its local business in favor of national chains. Imagine the job opportunities, food quality, and overall feel.
If you’re in Golden
Try the 5th Ring Coffee House before you go to Starbucks
Eat at Woody’s Pizza before you go to Pizza Hut
Buy at Vital Outdoors before you go to Big 5
Also be very aware of new areas that are becoming all the rage in the Denver Metro area. Places like Belmar are saturated with national businesses but they have a downtown shopping feel.
Large chains are getting very good at making themselves look local.
