Even though the Joseph R. Biden Jr. Amtrak train station in Wilmington Delaware was designed by Frank Furness in 1908 and is in a National Register Historic District, it is very much an active place. As a matter of fact, it is the 11th busiest station in the country. Christmas day 2011 was no exception, as you can see from these pictures. Before and after 1:00 p.m., two trains were in the station, one going to Boston, and the other to Florida. Just another day of boarding trains for the conductors and engineers, but always an eventful day of riding the trains for passengers eager to get back home or travel to yet another train station!

Took the train to Dallas Tx this summer. Took 1.5 hours longer than by car and still needed a car to get around the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

Maybe for a longer trip, but the short one just wasn't worth it.

Than--I agree, sometimes the short trips are not worth it. But when you can take a trip through the Rockies or some other spectacular place, there is nothing like it!

Hi Carolyn, I hope your Chritmas was wonderful. I haven"t taken a train ride since I was in Pa last year and it was a mile long, LOL. But we are supposed to get a Bullet fast train link to LA and SF one day in the future which should be awesome.

Hi William--Hope you had a great Christmas also. It's always fun seeing my grown son pursue his train interests which he has had since he was 2 years old. When he lived in Japan, he took me on the Shinkansen (bullet train). Impressive, of

 course!                    shinkansen
