GETTING THE HOLIDAY DECORATIONS PUT AWAY

I know to many of you it seems too early to remove the decorations, but for me...this year...it just feels right. We are having a funny winter here in St Paul, Minnesota.  On Christmas day it was in the mid 40's and the ground was as brown as toast.  Maybe that is why putting away the decorations only two days after Christmas feels right.

Instead of having a New Years resolution that revolves around getting my home organized in 2012, I have decided to get things Getting Organized to Welcome In 2012pulled together BEFORE the New Year so that I can hit the ground running on January 2nd with new initiatives for my home staging and room makeover business.  2012 will be all about growing my business and making my work fit in seemlessly into my lifestyle.

I love an organized home.  I dream of having a home where everything has a place and everything is in it's place.  But that isn't always the case at the Bond residence.  I use to think the problem was the kids, the dog, the husband.  I have come to accept that I am a bit to blame as well. (Since I have come to realize that I am part of the problem...now I just say that a messy home is the sign of a creative mind if I have unexpected guests arrive at the door!)

I think this is why I am good at homestaging and room makeovers.  I understand that life has clutter and some of it is welcome and some of it just takes up residence in our homes.  One of the mantras of Homestaging is "The way you live in a home and the way you present a home to sell are two completely different things".

Because I don't live in a home that looks like the cover of Good Housekeeping people are comfortable working with me.  I can truthfully say that I have never tisked or flinched when we moved out a sofa to reposition it in the room and found the kitties toys and a pile of legos and an assortment of baby pacifiers and cute little booties.  That is life.

So I have a 5 day plan all lined up and I am going to get this place whipped into shape!

Wish me luck!

If you have any great organizing tips to share...please send them my way.  I love picking up new tips and I will try to share some of my orgainizing tips with all of you over the next couple of days.

I agree with you.  Unfortunately some folks are never organized.  Here is a New Year poem.  I hope you enjoy it.

Wonder and amazement abound

Through the air rushes the sound

Church bells ring for all to hear

As heralds of the coming new year

What will it bring this new year to come?

Will it bring joy for everyone?

Will conflict around the earth cease?

Will we finally live in peace?

One thing is certain it seems to me

That there will be plenty of opportunity

Making connections and furthering our dreams

Looking above for our star as it beams

The chance to seek out kindness wherever it lies

And find to the love that is hidden in everyone’s eyes

Take the extra moment to open the door

You’ll find it rewarding and you’ll feel good for sure

Slow down and watch earth’s beauty unfold

Listen for truths that to you will be told

As glancing raindrops make designs in a pond

And birds take flight above and beyond

Protect nature’s abundance with your every measure

So that those to come might inherit the treasure

Universal forces will align in your favor

And your aspirations you’ll be allowed to savor

Every chance to advance is before you to untether

All still lies ahead to be earned by your endeavor

Enthusiasm pushes you forward with passion

Great achievement with your skills you will fashion

The year ahead is full of promise and hope

An unblemished canvas with unlimited scope

May we all take our brushes and such a bold opus create

That all we encounter will gasp and appreciate

Christi do your local friends, colleagues and clients expect you to live in the "ultimate" home with everything picture perfect like mine.  I tell them that it's just not so but they usually roll their eyes at me when I protest.  My office works for me and fortunately I can close the door to most of the outside world.  Happy New Year!

Hi Ginger...Yes, I hear it all the time from clients too.  They will say, "I bet your home is beautiful".  My response is always the same.  "When I throw a party it sure is!"

Our home is quite decluttered -- it's inside the cupboards and closets, barn and garage where way too many things live.  I'm also purging in 2012 -- one space a day until done.  Then next I'm cleaning up my computer . . . way too many old files and things that clutter up and make me waste time searching for things!  Happy new year!

Hi Margaret, I think the one small space at a time decluttering strategy is the absolute right way to approach those tucked away clutter area.  Vowing to maintain the newly decluttered space is also good practice.  Did you see my post about using the kitchen stove timer to push yourself along?  It is one of my favorite tricks!  Happy New Year!  I wish you organized spaces and a prosperous New Year.
