I always used to really enjoy the week in between Christmas and New Years. When I was a student it used to be a very peaceful holiday week, and even when I joined the workforce I could always find excuses not to get things done and no one really minded all that much.
2011 has been completely different. This has been the busiest week I have ever experienced in real estate. There seems a big urgency to get a lot of things done before the year ends. I'm busier than that proverbial one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest.
Another agent in the office has gone on vacation for two weeks, so I'm minding his business, and he happens to be the busiest agent in the office. I'm also working with two sets of buyers and have a rather troubled deal that needs quite a bit of attention to see it through. I'm actually enjoying this. I have looked after other agents stuff before, and I always enjoy the opportunity to have a bit of a peek and see how other people operate. I learn quite a bit from this and often adopt some of their methods to my own files.
All in all, 2011 was a good year for me, I changed brokerages and am very happy where I'm at right now. I also managed to exceed all of my financial targets, and I'm way more confident going in to 2012 than I was going into 2011. I have learned a ton of things in the last few months, and I'm looking forward to applying my new knowledge and skills. My websites are also sitting very pretty in the search engine, so that bodes very well for the spring posting season (Trenton is a military town).
I do understand that a lot of real estate folks in the U.S. didn't have a great year in 2011, so I do realize how blessed I have been. I think we can all hope and pray that 2012 will be a much better year, I know I'm going to do my part to make it so up here in the Great (not so) White North.
I'm wishing you all a prosperous and happy New Year. Go get 'em tigers.
