What if Real Estate Agents Used This Kind of Hype?

I really agree with Marte Cliff when it comes to headlines that grab my attention; her blog post made me think about the headlines I use. You'll find reading her post well worth your time.

Have an AWESOME day!

A funny thought occurred to me a few minutes ago...

It all started when my email presented me with a message that said: "Shocking video reveals how to learn a foreign language in just 10 days!"

The headline was followed by:

BREAKING NEWS:
Scientific discovery reveals the secret to speaking any language in just 10 days!

It made me laugh, but then I realized that when I first started studying copywriting, this is EXACTLY the kind of copy I was taught to write.

The gurus say that when you use words like: secret, startling, shocking, Fireworks Wowrevealed, revolutionary, and discovery people just HAVE to pay attention.

We as humans want to be first to know the secrets. That's why headlines proclaim access to information that someone (your doctor, your stockbroker, your insurance sales person, the government, etc.) doesn't want you to know.

Obviously, it's all hype. But also obviously, it still sells products or those major marketers wouldn't keep using it.

Most of the time, you see it with newsletters offering stock market tips, diet aids, nutritional supplements, get-rich-quick schemes, and programs such as the language course.

So what if we applied this kind of hype to real estate sales?

You could get would be buyers and sellers to opt in to your email drip campaigns by proclaiming:

Shocking new discovery reveals the secret to why some homes sell instantly.

Secrets to selling quickly for top price revealed in revolutionary video.

Startling new video reveals the secret to purchasing bank owned homes for less.

Top agent reveals shocking secrets to buying your new home under market value.

Scientific discovery reveals the secret to hypnotizing buyers into choosing your home - and paying top dollar!

I'm sitting here giggling just thinking about it...

Of course, I have seen agents advertising:

I'll sell your house in 30 days - Guaranteed!

and

I'll sell your house in 30 days - or buy it myself!

My first thought is always - "So what's the catch here?"

Just so you know... I'm NOT recommending hype. Just giggling about how silly it would look.
