Debbie, I'm disappointed that I can't be there.  I hope it is a great event and that you will write a post to tell us what you find out.  Since I have some Cherokee blood, I just have to believe the theory that it is the spirits of Cherokee warriors.

Debbe - Short, sweet and to the point. I need to know, what is causing the Brown Mountain Lights! This is a great local post.

Gary - you might just be right! I'll let you know what I learn!

Laura - It's funny, this mystery has been around for years (centuries?), and I remember that looking for the Brown Mountain lights was great fun when I was a child. The overlook is just north of where there was a Spanish settlement and fort - where one  more battle won by the Spanish may have had us speaking another language here in the mountains of NC! (Some say we already do, y'all!)

All the best to both of you in 2012!

Ooooooo. I would love to go. I just love mysteries, especially if they might include the paranormal. What a fun event. Too bad I'm not close enough to attend.

You have really gotten my interest. I love this kind of stuff. I wish I could be there for this event. I'm part Cherokee, too, and I like the idea the lights are caused by my Cherokee ancestors.

David - thanks for weighing in on the Alien connection!

Gretchen - Come on down. The Symposium is in February, but the lights are always there!

Debbie - I like that connection, too. Vote #2 for the Cherokees!

Happy New Year!
