Wow! It’s already that time of year. The New Year is approaching, it’s time for resolutions. How many are setting goals for the rapidly approaching 2012? I am! I am resolving and intending to do better – to achieve my dreams because I can.
We realtors tend to beat ourselves up, always expecting more. Perhaps we can achieve without the harsh expectations.........The approach is to set goals and challenges that will move us toward an improved living experience – more financial abundance, greater health, improved relationships. These generally top the list. And, I, like many others approach the New Year with renewed wind in my sales, multifarious possibilities for excellence at my work and optimism about change. Funny thing is that the change occurs each and every year with or without my directing that change.
In additon to your business planning (I hope that's done!) are you considering setting some New Year’s Resolutions, already have a list in process, or thinking “I never hit them anyway so why try?”
Is there a way to resolve and be happy whether or not your resolutions stick? Here’s my approach and one that may work for you as well.
1. Recognize all that you achieved in 2011 – your intentions and goals along with all the other accomplishments and events of significance. This will allow you to see what a year in a life generates with or without your direction. It was a challenging year in real estate, yet many of us help our own.
2. Choose resolutions of meaning for you. Your life is your own – don’t look to society for your plans. Maybe you’re satisfied with your plump physique, rich enough with a good, solid business, content with your life as it is. Find goals and aspirations that resonate with you – don’t look for approval. Create freedom.
3. Keep it Simple. Create a list that you can re-read each morning and evening – perhaps 3-7 goals that can remain in your awareness.
4. Bring joy, enthusiasm and positive energy to all that you do. Yes. There are times when things aren’t grand, yet the choice to accept and be positive is always ours.
5. Approach yourself with kindness and this will permeate your interactions with others. You may not be where you want to be, yet you are still deserving of kindness and compassion.
6. Recognize the flow. Your wants and needs may change as you move throughout the year. Follow the flow it may lead you to unimagined dreams.
7. Appreciate all that you are given and all that shows up in your life. Often we are so busy achieving that we miss the gifts and joy of each day.
8. Encourage others. This simple act will bring so much to you.
