2012It’s the end of another year and 2012 is waiting for us at the end of this week! And so, it’s time again to make the yearly list of New Year’s resolutions. There have been advancements and set backs in the real estate industry this year that require new ways of thinking about business, lead generation, real estate marketing, and more. Here are some suggestions for New Year’s resolutions that should be on your list in 2012 to get ahead of the game!

Get your social media to actually generate business for you!
Most Realtors have started embracing social media as an integral part of their marketing plans. But it’s easy to tweet, blog, and Facebook your way into a hole with nothing to show for it! As with everything there is a right way and a wrong way when it comes to making social media work for your business. Here are a couple of suggestions on how to do it right:
  • Create a Facebook page that gives your visitors and friends what they’re actually looking for on a Realtor’s page: ways to search for properties! Now you can display your featured properties or your listings on Facebook and link back to your website as well to generate more traffic.
  • Blog in a way that will help generate traffic on your main site and increase your SEO. Using ActiveRain is a easy way to get ‘Google juice’ for your site. Commit to blogging at least weekly while you’re at it!

Spruce up your website and start capturing leads!
While more Realtors are getting websites these days, most of these sites are not much more than digital billboards. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to get the word out about your business online, but it’s just as important to learn as much about your visitors as they are learning about you!

Give yourself a belated Christmas present for your business by investing in a site with a lead capture device that is tied into a contact manager and back end. This will help you build relationship with your website visitors and help you convert them from prospects into clients and sales!

Simplify your online marketing strategy.
There is so much you need to do to market yourself online these days. You need a website, a social media presence, email marketing, and more! There are also tons of online tools designed  to help you get organized like contact managers, transaction managers, online file storage, etc.

While you can use individual services for each of these, that’s a lot of log ins, passwords, and bookmarks to keep track of, and that can also be a lot of bills that pile up at the end of each month. Instead of using (and paying for!) these services individually, consider moving to a complete online marketing solution that gives you everything you need to run your business in one place that is user friendly and cost effective.

With those suggestions in mind, it’s time to say good by to 2011 and hello to a new year full of promise and online opportunities!
