Here in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota , we had a cold windy Halloween evening, but it was nothing compared to the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 dubbed "The Perfect Storm".  If you don't believe me, you can look it up in Wikepedia and see that it was judged a full all-out blizzard. It is a legend of no equal for ice and snow.  We had ice first ,always a good way to start and then came the snow and kept coming for three days.  There were accumulations of one to three feet of snow - a little early even for Minnesota.

Did that stop Cinderella, the Power Rangers and Barney from going door - to- door and accumulating one to three feet of candy?  Of course not, but unless they told you what their costumes were you wouldn't know under the winter wear!  Tiaras on top of beanie caps were very popular wear for the evening. Are Minnesotans tough?  Yah - sure - you betcha!

Kathleen ~ After hearing a weather report for this past Thursday, "rain with possible snow showers", which we luckily didn't have, I was remembering the January we had about 7 years ago where it was 60 degrees!  Going out with no jacket, removing Christmas lights and sweating - that was an interesting few weeks here.

This is exactly what prompted my question about whether you held a picnic if summer fell on a weekend....I was once in Grand Forks, ND and it was about minus 60 so cold they grounded the planes. So cold that no one turned off their car when shopping for fear of it freezing. So cold...well you get the picture.

James - I do remember that comment!

We have had quite a few winters with -40 degrees and many a summer over 100 degrees.  We are just extremists here. We picnic all times of the year - hot chocolate in the winter , of course.

Maybe our brains are perpetually half frozen.

Kathleen, I remember growing up in SD and Mont, trick or treating with my costume under my winter coat, and snow was always on the ground. Nothing stopped us from Halloween!

Kathleen, we have had some bitterly cold Halloweens here too.  One year I passed out hot chocolate to the adults and they were so grateful.  We live in a gated adult community now so don't get to see the trick or treaters.  I miss them, but I don't miss eating all the chocolate bars.  Betty

You will just have to start an Adult Treat group - Tricks could be scary at your advanced age.

Whoa Kathleen, I like that Egyptian guy!  I remember as a kid trick or treating with our costumes over our snow suits!  And in those days people actually made you do something cute before they'd put candy in your "pillow case".  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
