Final act for the year: De-cluttering work space and work habits. December 31, 2011
My final act and blog for the year: I don’t have a big plan --- but it all begins with decluttering. And it isn’t just the house that merits de-cluttering as I move forward and prepare myself for the coming year.
What does it take to de-clutter?
Take a look at your work space, your work habits
Clear the cobwebs --- of your mind. Focus! Got your action plan? Your budget?
Get rid of junk -- from your hard drive. If you took a moment to review your files, just how many of these files can you do without? If you must keep files --- burn files into disks you refer to later, or download them to an external hard drive, date it December 31, 2011. Then get rid of them from your hard drive. Have you considered filing online?
Simplify --- do more with less. Do we really need a lot of gadgets? I’m in search of a compact digital camera with wide angle lens capability. But I take pictures on as needed basis. The best photos for MLS postings are always those done by a professional photographer. For the amount of time I spend editing my own photos, a professional would have done it quicker, and at less cost to me (my time is precious).
So, just as we tell our clients to hire us, we should also hire professionals at certain areas of expertise
Energize --- yourself, your work space. For this, I may look at the basic principles of feng shui. One of my favorite books is “Easy-to-use Feng Shui: 168 ways to success” by Lillian Too. Lots of good examples and illustrations. What energizes me:
- a clean and tidy place
- color accents (especially red -- but it doesn’t have to be the whole room)
- a water fountain (soothing sound of running water)
- live plant --- especially the “Money Tree” which not only looks good and is easy to care for, but it also symbolizes, well, good fortune!
- dressing for success -- I have to work on this. Gotta lose weight first. HA!
Just a few simple steps to follow, but it could make the world of difference in mental stimulation, psychological motivation, and physical well-being.
