Is Television the queen of all real estate media?

It's interesting if you walk through any neighborhood at night and every home seems to have the TV on. Even if people aren't home, there'e the tv, left on for the dog or cat. Increasingly, people come in to my office to talk real estate and compare and contrast it with what they saw on tv. It's kind of a disturbing trend. After all, tv is not real life. People watch shows about flipping houses and use the show as kind of a how to guide even though that show has absolutly no resemblance to the market in Mid-Missouri. I'm sorry but re-habbing your home with Cherry flooring, an outdoor kitchen, granite everywhere and faux suede paint is not going to be a money maker. You should plan on staying in that house a long time. Even the flooring people at the local Home Depot are beginning to get concerned about their customers. I just started an educational show on cable access here in town and I'm going to have to do a show about not spending to much in order to make money on your re-hab. Is anyone else running into this?

I just love all the people that attempt to do things themselves especially flooring, unless they truly know what they are doing you can tell. 2nd I can tell you reality tv is not reality tv I have been on HGTV and a reality show in ABC and there is nothing real about them, tell your customers that.

Exactly. Saw a home on tour this week. The home did not sell a year ago, so the people invested in a pool and about $40k in additional upgrades that were not honestly needed. Now they "have" to sell, and they have the listing price at less than a year ago and it is likely $75k too high for the market. People just don't get it sometimes. They will never get their money out.
