Alligators Galore

Can you ever see too many alligators?  I think that I came pretty close to my limit today at Shark Valley, part of the Everglades National Park.  There were young and old, big and small.  Alligator after alligator.  If you enjoy seeing alligators in south Florida and want to know where you will see some, be sure to check out Shark Valley!

Hi Chris, I used to live in Miami and was shocked when I visited Shark Valley and saw so many gators.  I was not thrilled walking on that walk above them.  Happy New Year!

OH MY, my quick actions to move right back to Colorado would be SCREAMING!     We have a few hazards, but these guys, NO WAY!

Hi Judith - We were trying to decide if we wanted to go somewhere else as we thought there might be an alligator overload awaiting us, but the birds decided to put in an appearance as well!

Hi Joan - If you respect them, they will respect you.  They may be at the top of the food chain, but they can go for up to six months on one meal (well, if it is a BIG meal).  : )

Lots of little ones. We saw albino gators the last time we were in Florida and Louisiana for that matter (not in the wild of course.).

Hi Than - Yes, albino gators do not do well in the wild.  : )

Hi Rose - Maybe not quite as close as it looks.  I wasn't interested in tangling with them!!

Those little baby ones are kind of cute... but not for long.  Seeing so many slithering around would be a little creepy. I hear there are now plenty of boa constrictors in the Everglades too.

You know, I tried your cheese tart recipe for the holidays and got raves.  They were very easy to make, but the hardest part was finding the tiny little cups, which I never did find so I just used the larger paper cups and made big tarts.  They were a little messy but SO good!  Thanks!

Hi Georgina - So glad that you tried the cheese tarts and let me know about them!  The problem with "old" recipes is that you often have trouble finding some of the ingredients (especially in Hawaii).

The boa constrictors are definitely becoming a problem in the Everglades.  It is pretty scary what they can consume!

Hi Chris,

Really great pictures of those gators. They can be mean so I am not so sure I would want to be as close and I am one that will do much of anything to get the shot. Maybe not with alligators? Love the last one the best.

Nah you can never see too many alligators - unless they are not contained.  Then that is a whole different story...!
