Speechless Sunday - 1962 Ford Fairlane 500

Just for fun, I would like to show you my husband's pride and joy - a 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. It looked pretty awful when he first got it, and he has restored most of it.

He let me choose the color - as long as it was within the Ford colors from that year. This is called Rangoon Red. I feared I had made a mistake, because it almost looked orange when it was first put on! But after it dried, it turned this beautiful red color. He decided the make the top white, and I concur that it looks fabulous!

Most of the parts replacement was done by my husband, and being a sheet metal handler, he replaced huge areas that had rusted out himself. You can't tell by looking that the areas he replaced weren't done by a professional. Our friend did some of the body work and the painting.

It's a fun ride! Perfect for a Sunday cruise.

Hi Lynda,

That is a pretty amazing ride.

It is nice to sense that the car is not competition for your affection, but that you are involved in it too.

All the best in the new year

Phil

As the owner of the project car myself (A 1951 Chevy Deluxe) I know how much pride your husband has for his hard work. It is beautiful and he should take it out whenever he has a chance.

Thanks, Brian, he is very proud of it, and wants to do more work on it.

Todd, thank you too, I would love to see a picture of yours. I'll have to find a "before" photo and post it too.

My husband would be salivating if I showed him this...he's been wanting to restore a car for awhile now.  No room to do it at the moment, but perhaps down the road.

We didn't have room either, but he got it anyway. He talked his mom into storage it in her garage, after the fact.

That is a beauty, Lynda.  I bet it is your husband's pride and joy, and yours too by the sound of it.

Thank you, Jane. If he doesn't sell it we may enter it in some local car shows this summer. We get a lot of looks when driving it down the road. (*I* would never dare drive it, or it wouldn't be here much longer.) ;)

Great looking rod.  I love the old Fords.  Just think in a few more months you can ride in it again- or even thsi weekend in Louisville---you never know the weather...

Timothy, isn't that the truth! We've had decent weather the past couple of days. If it's like that today I should get out and clean my own car. Thank you for the compliment!

Great looking ride.

I note that it distresses me that now a car built before 1986 is considered an antique.

Geeze, what does that make me?
