~ Introducing Wrigley ~
For many of you that read my blog, you know that I lost my dog Kobi in November this past year. He was a huge part of my life. For over 12 years I was greeted by him at my door every time I returned home. I had that unconditional love that a pet can give. He was the subject of many of my posts. He brought joy into my life every single day and I dearly miss him.
I know that no other dog can replace Kobi. But not only have I missed Kobi in my everyday life, I have missed that feeling of unconditional love. For over 12 years he was my life and confidant. I always used to joke that if anyone knew how to speak dog, I would be in big trouble because they could learn all my secrets and everything I thought.
This past week, I finally decided that I was ready. I was ready to look for another dog. I loved the Shiba Inu breed that Kobi was, but felt that if I got another one, I would compare them. I wasn't sure what I was going to do. So I thought I would first check out the Denver Dumb Friends League in Denver to see about adopting a pet and giving them a second chance at life and a good home. But I wasn't able to find a match for me.
Nest, I went to the Denver Dumb Friends League Buddy Center in Castle Rock. It is a much smaller center. Timing is everything. They has a Shiba Inu mix named Jerry that was a year and a half old that I thought I might be interested in. But when I arrived, Jerry had already been on hold for another family.

The front desk told me they just got a few dogs in from a shelter in New Mexico two days earlier and there was a Shiba Inu/Australian Cattle Dog mix they had named Zeus (since he did not have a name when he arrived). I was interested. So I waited in a visitation room for Ellen, the adoption counselor, and Zeus to come.
Love at first sight!!! He had these ridiculously big ears (like a German Shepard) and a tail that wanted to curl, but instead it goes up and then just drops straight down to his left side. So when he wags it (which is often), it goes in circles on his side! It's the cutest thing. He's much taller and longer than Kobi was. And right now he is very thin, only 27 lbs. But there was no way I was going to stay with that name Zeus! To me, he was Wrigley! Based on the photos, what kind of dog do you think Wrigley is????
I took him home that day! He's house broken, and does know his commands, but they need work. He is such a little cuddler and lover. He now knows his name and we go for walks every morning. Wrigley is just loving the walks. I need to keep him on a leash because I'm not sure how he would treat his new found freedom. And I certainly want to keep him for a long time!
I'm sure you will hear more stories in the future about Wrigley and our adventures!
