Is There Such Thing as DoNotSpam.com? With a Photo of Reno, NV

By

We all have heard of DoNotCall.gov to register our phone number to eliminate telemarketers from calling us.  Is there such thing as DoNotSpam.com or something similar?  A website that we can all register our email address or maybe report notorious spammers would be very useful.

My ISP has a spam blocker, so as my Microsoft Outlook, and my server with GoDaddy also filters spam.  There are some notorious spammers that need to be reprimanded.  I have opted-out many times and still getting spams.  I also delete emails if I don't recognize the senders.  Spam mail is a big time waster.

Picture below was provided by my talented friend Ken Terry (775) 772-7031. Check out my other blogs for more photos of Reno, NV.

Catherine - I think that there might be, but it is just too difficult to enforce.

I do not think there is any opt out for spam. I know they come in waves. I actually wonder who reads them.

Unfortunately I still get many a REAL email that goes into SPAM ... here is one thing that I do to reduce SPAM

I DO NOT use auto-responders ... when a spammer gets a live response your email goes around ... I went from virtually no SPAM to hundreds per day after going on vaction and using an AUTO-RESPONDER

I have a question for any of the techies out there...how do they set the date to 2038 when they send you that crap?

If you start a DoNotSpam.com, count me in...I do not like it either.

First of all, a BIG 'no no' is to opt out of spam!  Bad bad bad....

By asking that you be removed, you are in effect only confirming that you have a valid email address!  They will then turn around and SELL your address to many, many other spammers!  Not a good idea!  Just DELETE the spam!

The BEST spam filter on the planet is Gmail.com  I think if anyone comes up with a spam fighter that actually works, it will be Google.  If spam is a problem, I would strongly suggest switching to Gmail.

Many benefits:

  • You can send and receive HUGE attachments
  • You can archive your old email almost indefinitely and search for old emails
  • If your computer crashes, all of your email and contacts are still in place
  • Their spam filter is the BOMB.  It's amazing.
  • You can have your mail sent as "yourname@yourdomain.com", not from a gmail address if you want.  And it's FREE.
  • You can get email from multiple accounts all funneled into Gmail.  For free.
  • If you check email from more than one computer, it makes life MUCH simpler as it is all in one place
  • If you get email on your cell phone, getting it through gmail eliminates almost all spam.  it's awesome!

Yahoo has a pretty good filter for spam. However, on occasion some regular emails get stuck in with the spam.

Ryan Martin ~ You are probably right.  It may be difficult to enforce.

Eric Bouler ~ I wonder about it too.

Allen Wright ~ Good point on the auto reponsder.  I have stopped doing that too.

Karen Monsour ~ You had me laughing with that "crap" comment.

Fred Light ~ I just learned something new from you.

Elaine Stewart ~ I have heard good things about Yahoo!.

Thank you all for your comments.  Keep them coming!

Catherine,

I temporarily borrowed that (crap) from TLW...but it is, what it is...a waste of my time...

I also use Yahoo...they are good at blocking spam.

I finally signed up with www.InternetCrusade.com  for their eMailPlus. (the same guys who wrote the e_PRO course) It's been a joy! My good mail comes through automatically. I am down to about 100 a day instead of 1000+ and rarely does it catch good mail, but it holds everything on the server so I can check or delete! I can also set up multiple auto-responders.

Hi Catherine,

I shouldn't do this, but I must.  We have a saying about spam -- Fry it until it burns...and then toss it out. (Interpretation = scream and delete, scream and delete, scream and delete!)

My Yahoo was great at not allowing much spam, but recently I have gotten more....the more sites you sign up for the more spam you get :) Just the cost of doing business I was told.

Karen Monsour ~ You are right, DELETE, DELETE, DELETE.  It starting to become a habit but I read the sender first because I might accidentally read something that I need.

Karen McGraw~ It is a curse that comes with being in business. A lot of people are raving about Yahoo! It must be a great ISP.

Thank you for the comments.  Please check my other blogs for more photos of Reno, NV.

I click the "phishing scam" choice in my hotmail, mark them as "junk" or delete them.  If I keep deleting email from an address unread my email will automatically start to send email from that address to my "junk" folder.

Maya Thomas~ Thanks.  I use Microsoft Oulook for my emails.  I have to manually mark each Spam mail as junk.  It is tedious but it seems to be working.
