Astronomy in Golden
Re-discover astronomy! Golden is lucky to be located right where it is! The night sky is fairly clear most nights because of the foothills that block out Denver’s light and the lack of light pollution Golden itself puts out. This makes astronomy so much easier and amateur astronomers happy to see the sky. Although Jupiter is very easy to see at the moment, the Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve is celebrating the discovery of Neptune anniversary with an astronomy presentation!
Located a little southwest from downtown Golden, Lookout Mountain Nature Center is playing host to NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Mike Hotka. He will be discussing the fascinating discovery of Neptune by, not two astronomers, but rather mathematicians. As the eighth planet in our solar system, Neptune was observed many times previous to the 1800’s, but was not identified as a planet until…well; I won’t spoil it for you! This astronomy discovery made Neptune quite an amazing find!
There is much to learn from the Discovery of Neptune presentation; for those avid astronomy fans who have their eyes constantly turned toward the sky to those who just appreciate the general beauty of the stars over Golden. The astronomy presentation on the Anniversary of Neptune’s Discovery is free to all, but registration is required. The Nature Center has other astronomy events year round. After the presentation, why not take a walk around Clear Creek or do some window shopping in Downtown Golden. Let the stars (and Neptune) be your guide and discover something new to have an anniversary for next year!
