Where have all the good movies gone?!?!?!!

OK - I'm officially am disgusted...

My daughters & I just got back from Blockbuster where we were going to rent a Family Flick to watch this afternoon.  The weather's perfect for movies here in Roanoke - hazy, cold, & just makes you want to stay inside! Anyways, it's been a while (needless to say) since the last time I was in Blockbuster...

Maybe (hopefully) it's because Halloween has just pasted, but EVERY row of movies had a horror flick on it!!!  No exageration...everything from 1408 (new movie) to Zombie Nation!

I officially feel like my Grandparents now... "All the good movies were back in the 50's, etc...when they had plots & storylines"...

Sorry for venting... ;o)

PS - What ever happened to movies like Breakfast Club, Rad, & Space Camp!!! :o)

Josh,

You are so right!  I actually saw The Breakfast Club again last week.  They just don't make 'em like that anymore!

I'm concerned that Space Camp is something you look forward to!!!  Just kidding......try a comedy, will lighten the mood.

Go rent "The Best Years of OurLives".  It beat out "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Old Yeller" for best picture in 1946.  It is an amazing movie.  And get "Cars"...  Lightning McQueen ROCKS!

I miss the Brat pack!  Remember how controversial Breakfast Club WASN'T?  Teenagers smoking pot on the big screen during Saturday detention didn't cause my parents to be fearful that I would smoke pot.  It was a different world then and we were accountable for our actions rather than blaming it on a video or the media.  Can you imagine getting busted and telling your parents it was Judd Nelson's fault?  I would have been smacked three times--once for pot, once for lying and once for good measure.

Hope you find a good movie to watch...you could just turn everything off and play a game.

What a great plug for Netflix!  I haven't been in a video store in ages - now I know why!

I agree, Josh, it seems the old movies actually tell a story instead of lambasting us with sound and video effects.   I love the ones from the 40's!  Even when they are black & white!

Ok, 8 comments have already been left and no one has said anything about your Rad reference...........HAHAHAHAHA

I agree, Rad is a movie to which we should be comparing all future movies!!!

Absolutely one of the best movies ever was Fandango!  One of Kevin Costner's firsts.  A real "privledge of youth" !

They not only don't make them like they used to, but if this writers strike continues there may be less to pick from!

Based on what has been coming out recently, it's hard to be upset about a writer's strike!  I watched Knocked Up last night--NOT A FAMILY MOVIE, but it was hilarious!
