Are you at a crossroads in your professional life?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

Are you at a crossroads in your professional life?Lately I have heard more and more professionals tell me that they are unhappy with their current work situation and are ready to make a change.

But during tough economic times, there is more than the usual amount of anxiety associated with charting a new course on the journey of life.

And so many would-be career shifters choose to “wait it out” until the economy rebounds and the potential downside of such a move is less tenuous.

As a result, the feeling of being trapped by uncontrollable external forces only leads to less satisfaction and more unhappiness.

There is NEVER a perfect time to make a change. Life is too short to be miserable each and every day.

Are there risks? Of course there are! But life itself is a risky business.

And generally speaking, rewards are always commensurate with the risk taken!

Good morning Richard,

So true, life is too short to be miserable.  Take charge of your choices and choose what you need to be fulfilled.

I went thru this last year when business was so slow and I was worried about my future. It took a few months to "wake up" and realize I love what I do and that the reward IS out there. I just have to get it. Good post.

Now is as good a time as any.  Depending on the area...Starting a new career and keeping the old on the side while you gear up is a possibility for many.

Hi Richard.   Change is not always easy but invigorating.   If your hearts in it, one can make great things happen.

I think many times people react to the moment instead of the broad picture.  Happiness comes from a choice of what you wish to feel and how you act/react.  If one is so miserable in their job then seek a profession that they can feel passionate.  If they are waiting until the "good times" in real estate comes back then their choice should be to accept the moment, make the best, try new things and understand that they have chosen a future not the present.  Nice post Richard and love the perfect photo choice!

I was in 2006. Looking back, it's the best decision I made for myself. I hear myself sing and say, "If God is for you, who can stop you?"... Thanks for letting me share it.

Richard, you are so right! People spend at least 1/3 of their day working, it's not worth whatever big bucks you are making to be miserable for that amount of time. My husband is in that situation right now, his workplace was taken over by a huge corporation and he's been shooting resumes off like bullets trying to get out of there!

As we learn as we get older the only constant is change.  It's never too late to make the changes necessary for ones happiness, after all that's truly what we are after

Agreed, the focus needs to be on happiness and joy - our natural state and easily forgotten in tough times. Focus on the beauty in a day, what can make you smile - a cloud, a bird, a person holding the door open for you at the grocery store.

I remember well the struggle I went through when I was considering a career change a little over 10 years ago. Talk about being scared. But it ended up being the best decision I made.

Very well stated.  If you are not happy in any aspect of your life, make the change!  Life is indeed too short.
