You might have noticed that I have a fairly uncommon last name (you would be flabbergasted at how many people say it wrong in one day) but at the same time it may sound familiar to you and that’s because I have a famous uncle. My Uncle Ted DiBiase, he is a professional wrestler and so are a few more members of my dad’s side of the family.
On Monday I was on Facebook and I noticed that I had a new friend request. I noticed it was one of my cousins so I added him back. We started “skyping” right away because that side of the family lives in the south and I live in Arizona, so really, we don’t see each other much. My kids were really excited to connect with their uncle and we talked for hours. Well, actually, I talked for hours because he was having technical difficulties and he couldn’t get his camera to work.
I got to work yesterday and was talking to the girls that work in the office and telling them about the skyping and what not. I also mentioned that it was a little strange because he didn’t want me to log out of skype and just kept insisting. After this talk and a fresh set of eyes, we realized something was off. I started doing some investigative work and sure enough, I found out that he was an impostor and he’s been trying to add a few of my family members and even friends of mine faking to be a wrestler. The creepiest thing is that he knows my family member’s names and all.
I guess you can never be too cautious online. As we market like crazy we are also exposing ourselves to situations like this, so be careful out there! Now I know that if the Real Estate biz doesn’t pan out, I can always become a detective!
