I met her through this blog....She and her husband Don Thompson contributed photos, comments, and information for the blog that has become largely a pictorial of old Searcy Arkansas.  She passed away January 4, 2012 and this is a tribute to her and the many contributions she made to further the history of Searcy.

Let's begin with a picture of Paula Windsor posing after winning a camera from Family Shoe Store.  She is the tall girl on the right.  She used the camera to document some of old Searcy.

Paula was a Girl Scout and she used the camera in a project she chose.  She was to take pictures of Searcy businesses.  First let's see her in her Girl Scout uniform.

Scouts are supposed to do projects and since hers was photography she took photos that are treasures now and she shared them on this blog.

As Paula grew up in Searcy Arkansas she was active in school activities. She is the lovely tall girl again.

She also enjoyed summer outings.

Paula loved Searcy but moved away as so many of the people from Searcy have done.  But she and they still loved Searcy and she had held onto the memories of her youth in Searcy.  This tribute is not an obituary because I don't have dates or relatives.  It is written to let people who read this blog express their love for her perhaps in a comment or a silent beloved memory.

Thank you, Paula, for having documented a lot of Searcy's history and for sharing.

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful person, and Searcy Sleuth extraordinaire.  I've known Paula all of my life it seems...but in reality from lst grade on:  in school activities together, band, and now as the wife of our dear friend and classmate, Don.  We've had many good times together, and have partaken of much good food together.  Had lots of laughs and reminences of Searcy in the good ole days.  She will be missed by many, for she made many friends during her years.  Never heard her say a bad word about anyone!

Thanks for the memories, Barbara....I'd forgotten some of the pics. you posted.

I didn't know Paula personally, but she sure seemed like a nice person from all I have heard.  Don, I am so sorry for your loss.  I was wondering how she was doing.

What a wonderful tribute to Paula, one of your partners in crime when it came to Searcy history. What a striking, interesting woman she was (and tall)! Her appreciation for history will be memorialized forever in cyberspace, thanks to your teamwork, and she would have wanted it to be that way. Deepest condolences to Don and his family.

Thank you, Paula, for so many memories you stirred up through Barbara's blog.  All those wonderful pictures in this beautiful tribute are warm reminders of the rich heritage those of us lucky enough to be from Searcy are privileged to have.  Don, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of your great loss.  She was a beautiful lady and so generous in sharing her memories.  She has blessed us all.

It has been such a pleasure to renew a friendship with Paula in recent years, both on this blog and in person.  We grew up together, in the same high school class, and she was always a special person.  Then, not seeing her for many years except for occasional high school class reunions, it was such a treat to get to know her again through my friendship with Don.  She really grew into such an interesting lady and a joy to be around, with a great sense of humor.  I will treasure all our visits the last few years, especially a week we spent in Victoria BC.

Thanks, Barabara for these historic memories.

Paula was truly an outstanding professional in the medical field.

I did not get to know her well, but met her at the 1954 SHS Graduates' Reunions in Searcy.

She will be missed by all.

It was very fun seeing all the photos that Paula took as a Girl Scout.  Being a leader myself for the last 5 years for my daughter's troop, I have a special appreciation for the project she was working on...especially since Girl Scouts is now celebraing their 100th anniversary this year.

This tribute for Paula is very thougtful, and it means a lot to her family and friends. How do I know Paula? I am Don's daughter-in-law. I will always remember Paula with a smile. She had such a joie de vivre way about her and a ready smile that you couldn't help but feel happy being around her. She also had a steady presence about her that provided comfort and support to those in need.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. We will miss her greatly but she will always be remembered with much love.

Rest in peace Paula!

Robi

Barbara,  Thank you for the lovely tribute to Paula and for sharing the great pictures of Searcy.  I grew up with Paula in Searcy and have fond memories of our friendship through the school years. I seem to remember she drove a Studebaker and I thought it was the neatest car! I lost track of her as the years went by but had the opportunity to visit with Paula and Don at the Searcy High School Reunions which I really enjoyed.  So sad to lose our classmate and my thoughts are with Don and family at this time.

Wallace, thank you for your comment about Paula.  She impressed everyone who met her, including myself.  I only met her through this blog but enjoyed seeing her and hearing about her for the past 3 or 4 years.

Robi, that is a lovely tribute to Paula in your comment.  All of the people who know and love her will appreciate it so much.  Thanks.

Thanks, Marian.  You, Don, Paula, Anita and so many others have contributed to this blog and I hope we can continue to do so.  It is a nice way of reaching out.

Still shedding tears for the loss of dear Paula Anne. I have been posting some of her pictures on White County As I Know It as a tribute to her Girl Scout Merit Badge effort when she was 12 in 1947. Paula and I dated after she graduated from high school and we parted ways as we embarked on our careers. Hers in the medical profession in Little Rock, AR and mine in Electronic Engineering in California. By chance, we met up again 45 years later when I came to my 45th SHS reunion in 1999. We got married in 2000 and had a wonderful 12 year marriage before she passed.

I miss her so much.
