Use your iPhone 4S to Find Your Car in a Crowded Parking Lot

If you are a fan of Seinfeld, you probably remember the episode where Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer get stuck in a parking garage for hours, which results in a few mishaps. Had that episode taken place this year, the crew would have only been in the parking garage for a few minutes. With the iPhone 4S it is possible to find your car in a crowded parking lot after a long day of shopping or a vacation. Thanks to the Find My Car Smart app and Bluetooth 4.0 you can locate your car before your goldfish dies or you get arrested.

The first step to making this system work is to download the iOS app called Find My Car Smart by FMC. The app was developed with Kickstarter funding and costs a mere 99 cents, which makes up for itself when you are wandering around a parking garage at night trying to find your car.

The next step is to purchase and start using a USB-based Bluetooth proximity adapter. The adapters through FMC Smart will become available only after the Kickstarter funding goal is achieved, but they are hoping to send out five-hundred devices by January 2012. You can receive a Find My Car Smart Device when you pledge $25 to the Kickstarter project. If you pledge $30, you will also receive a USB car charger. You will only need to pair your Find My Car Bluetooth Smart Device, or other Bluetooth device, with your iPhone 4S once. This process will take less than a minute.

Once you have the app and the Bluetooth device up and running, you are free to forget where you parked your car, and you won’t have to worry again. The app will keep track of the location of your parked car, how far away you are from it, and how long you have parked in that particular location. If you are parked at a meter, you will know exactly how long before you need to feed the meter again. When you are ready to find your car, all you have to do is look at your app. Best of all, the app does not use a lot of battery power from your iPhone.

This app is handy because you don’t have to log your car’s location when you leave it. That means you can run in somewhere in a rush, and not have to worry later that you forgot to mark the location. That was the reason why the owner created the app - “Stopping to launch an app when I’m running into work or trying to catch a plane is a complete waste of time and totally annoying. So I developed an app that allows the iPhone 4S to remember the last place I parked and the only time I have to launch the app is after I’ve lost my car, not before.” This app will automatically record your GPS coordinates.
