Have The Winter Blahs? Pick Up A Paintbrush

There is no better antidote for the winter blahs than picking up a can of paint and refreshing a room.  It's inexpensive and the impact can be huge.  Whether you're planning on putting your home on the market or just want a little update, you can't get a better return on investment.

Think color when you head for the paint store.  When your walls are white, or off white, you're always fighting to warm up the space.  The new neutrals, the tans, taupes, beiges create a beautiful backdrop for your design, no matter what your style preference.  Many urban settings are going back to the graceful grays, offering an easy option for a striking space, when coupled with black, white and a pop of color, or a very restful and relaxing one using texture, in a monochromatic scheme.

The blue neutrals (blue grays, blue greens) work really well in bedrooms, immediately creating a restful ambiance, and working well with the many coordinating bedding ensembles available today.  Don't be afraid to add a little bling to give your room the finishing touch.

If you're not planning on selling your home in the near future, you might even want to consider a deeper color for one room in the house.  Something in the toasty colors, or pumpkin, squash family works well in a den, for example, as can even a deeper color as long as you keep your trim in the wide range of whites, to make everything pop.  When going dark though, add enough light objects or those that reflect light to bring the whole look together.

Geri...good to know....however, our winter is at about 55 degrees today.  I do hear that we'll have reasons to pick up the brush later this week.  Blessings!

Geri, this sounds like a great idea. I love some of the new colors. Now where to start?
