Hey, it's on again

After weeks of balmy, almost tropicality, wintery snow is falling in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah. We are white and cool once again in Sandy with our overnight and continuing falls.

My truck is happy under it's little load of snow. Snow-blowers can now come out of garages and be put to use. Snow plows may even see some use after weeks of stealthy lurking.

We have been dry. December (driest ever) with one tenth of one inch of precipitation (snow), instead of 20+ inches, and following a warm start to January, with 40s and 50s, tended to suggest we may have been expecting a "pass-by" of winter. Even local road works have continued past their normal time. Ten day forecasts have been promoting "excess sunshine" in an almost "your guess is as good as mine" approach to weather prediction.

Maybe Monday's vees of south headed, honking geese (months later than normal), knew something was coming.

Out-of-state visitors, skiers and snowboarders, expecting better conditions, have been lamenting more than their fair share of rocks, gravel and tree-trunks in their down-hill pursuits.Smiles can reappear among those with a sporting proclivity to fall off mountains.

But never fear, winter is ON again. Everything is white, and beautiful in the Salt Lake Valley. The place looks so-o tidy and inviting. Perhaps we should put up our Christmas lights again to add to our winter(y) joy.

Larry, It really was nice to wake up this morning to snow.  We got about six inches -- which was nice after seeing the National Weather Service forecast of up to a half inch.

Larry, I have to say the ONLY thing I like about that white stuff is seeing it on TV or on mountain tops.  I DO NOT miss shoveling and shivering - not one little bit.  But, the first snowfall is always so pretty.  Stay warm and dry!!!

Roger - you are sure to get a run for your winter woollies. It'll happen.

Gary - the air has cleared. Last evening produced a bright clear sky with a huge blazing moon (approaching full). Even 2x hot air balloons in evidence. Amazing, low-light landscapes with a shine.

David - happy to have you visit, to fuel your passions. It's all part of my long-term plan to attract people to permanency in Utah.

Juli - beauty by proxy even if chilly. Hey ~ I must 've had a Rip Van Winkle. Look at you, Girl with your points in the stars. Very inspiring 400k. Congrats on your achievements.

Glad to see your weather is closing in on normal! With a little luck Southwest Florida will be back to its normal sunny and warm self by early this week. Enjoy your day!
