I think I got a new hobby...or it's an old forgotten one.
My daughter got a Christmas present. It is an American Girl doll. That is what all neighborhood girls her age are having. Well...I admit it was expensive present but I guess we all trying to give our kids what our parents could not afford ...or maybe thought that spending money on toys is not the first priority. Anyway we got the doll but now she needs new clothes. Searching the American Girl Dolls website made me feel down. Dolls outfits cost as much as kids clothes.
So my creativity juices started flowing and I recalled my knitting experience. I also will be using my sawing skills.
I remembered when I was my daughter's age, some of my girl friends were very proud bringing their's dolls in the new outfits made by their mothers. My mom was not that handy...years later I start making outfits and doll houses myself for my dolls.
I thought that my daughter will be happy to have new outfits for her doll too. I don't know now who is more exited me or her. I knitted a sweater, scarf, boots an a skirt.
I am searching now for new knitting ideas through the Internet. It is so much fun plus I am having mother-daughter time while knitting for the doll and teaching my daughter how to knit... It is hard for the 8 year old to figure it out ( I think I was 13 when learned how to do it) but she is making a messenger bag and even though I help re-do most of her steps she can't wait when she will finish it.
I did knit a lot for myself and my family 20 years ago and very happy that I can do it again for my duagter's doll. I am also searching through my daughter small clothes to make more doll's outfits. I will be blogging more showing American Dolls self made outfits. If you need instructions, feel free to give me a call or e-mail me.
