Recycling in Milton

I was admittedly a little slow getting on the recycle band wagon but soon realized that it saves us about half of our solid waste expenses.  Since our contractor out of Puyallup serving the Edgewood area only takes plastic, paper & metal we're left with disposing of glass along with regular garbage.  For someone so slow to get on board, this has proved frustrating because Pierce County and south King County have very few glass recycling stations.  Needs for our real estate business rarely exceed one can per week but when it does, it is obvious that the easy ability to recycle glass could save us a few hundred dollars each year.

So I was very pleased that in routine real estate related errands I stumbled upon a small glass recycling station in Milton, just a couple of minutes from our office.  It is located just across from the Milton City Utilities office (the big red MILTON sign you can see at night from I5) and around the corner from City Hall and the Library.

Now, in addition to the fancy recycle bin, we have a simple cardboard box filling with wine/beer/soy bottles, mayo/mustard/spaghetti sauce jars, etc.  It isn't hard at all to dump this new "green" box on our way to most of our common destinations.

The moral to the story (if there is one) is to not only keep your eyes open for opportunity but look for them.  I found this by accident but could have easily found it by intentionally looking.

It does seem the West is better at things such as this.  Where I live they stopped recycling.
