Vancouver Aquarium - Colour Inspiration for a Vancouver Home Stager

As a Vancouver Home Stager, I'm always looking for the latest colour trends and great colour combinations.  The best place to find colours that work together and inspire is in nature.  A recent visit to the Vancouver Aquarium opened my eyes to a whole new world of colour combinations.

These jelly fish are a real show stopper.  The complimentary colours, blue and orange, create a vibrant, attention grabbing sight.

The pink, cream and brown combination here is one of my favourites.  Not only are the colours beautiful, but the various textures of the soft, fluffy sea annenomes contrasted against the hard, smooth pebbles and shells in the bottom of the tank are very pleasing.

If you're not sure what colours will work together in your home, or you need some ideas and inspiration, don't go to the paint store and stare at reams and reams of meaningless paint chips.  Look at nature - all your colour combination questions are answered there.

Sharon - I agree.  I love anenomes too, and these remind me of fluffy Flakoti cushions.

Valerie - Pulling colours from art is also a great idea, or your favourite fabric or wall covering.

Sally, great idea getting  your color inspiration from nature and from an aquarium no less.  I love the pink and brown combo these days in particular.

Sally, your pictures are beautiful. I love how you show that people can find inspiration in the nature and use it to improve their home interior. I also like that you teach to use different textures. Super post.

Anna - As you know, different textures are as important as colour selection.  There's nothing like something tactile to add interest to a room.  Ha ha - you don't think the faux deer head is too much?!!!

Personally, I don't think that there are too many of them, however my husband would have different opinion on that. In Russia they say that the man who's wife is cheating on him has horns growing. So I never suggest that type of accessories to my clients LOL

Hi Sally - I agree with you wholeheartedly about the colours in nature and how we should use them. I especially used to admire the colours of the wild flowers, that the City of Victoria planted down the median between the two lanes on the Trans Canada Highway, some years ago. They looked like an impressionist painting!

Kristine - Too true!  It's tough for most people to get colour combinations right.  It's not as easy as one would think - good thing they have us to consult!

David - The wild flowers by the highway in Victoria sound lovely.  Do they still plant them?  If they do, you need to post some photos when spring/summer hits.  Talk about a contrast in texture, too!

Sally - It must be about 4 years since they last planted them in spring, and I wish I had taken some pics at that time. It's a shame that they no longer plant them.

David - Oh, that's too bad.  It sounded very pretty, and surely it would only be a case of someone sprinkling a million wild flower seeds...doesn't sound like the flowers would need much tending.

Love the photos Sally. Isn't it amazing how nature just knows how to use color ;). I always tell my clients to pick something they love as a starting point.

Janice - Those are wise words to tell a client.  Colour is very personal, so it's nice to have a starting off point.
