Will This Have Been a Good Use of My Time?

Only time will tell...

After reading that Amazon sells one million Kindle books per week - and that Google favors books sold on Amazon over books sold on individual's websites, I decided to put two of my little e-books on Kindle just to see what would happen.

Being a defintely non-techie sort, I did run into a glitch or two. But I THINK I have them straightened out, and these two books are now available.

The next step was to remove them from my e-junkie store and re-write the web pages where they were offered. This turned into a BIG project - but I think I'm finished.  And now that I've got the steps figured out, I think the next ones will be easier.

A side benefit of doing this project was learning to use Word 7 a bit better. I had no idea that I could highlight titles and subtitles and that when I added a TOC (table of contents) entry at the top, a table of contents would magically appear. Wow!

Anyway, my first two Kindle books are now available - neither is directly How to Grow Your Small Business - coverrelated to real estate, but I had to announce them anyway. The next one will be real-estate related - sort of.

How to Successfully Grow Your Small Business on a Small Budget tells how to use your existing contacts to bring more and more customers into your small business.

A Fundraising Primer for Cash-strapped Non Profits is just what it says - a primer. It's a book of advice for getting started when you have little or no experience with fundraising. Of course it has tips for writing a fundraising appeal letter.

And if you're involved with a small non-profit, come over to the fundraising page on my website for some tips, then check out the Fundraising Primer.

Yay Marte!

Great that you are taking self publishing to the next level and it will be easier now.  Great start to the new year.

Marte - I have to figure out how to do that.  It cost me $5,000 to publish my mom's book of poetry and I need to do a reprint, but this time it will have to be online as I can't afford the print version.  I hope you will write a blog series on how to self-publish a book for Amazon.

Well let me first congratulate on authoring books and then also commend you a non-techie, for making a very techie-like plunge. Good luck.

Marte - Congrats on publlishing your ebooks.  I think that's great.  It worries me that a giant company like Amazon has so much pull - but it is wise to make use of the venue.

Thanks Marge - It took me long enough. When I first read the instructions I just kind of shorted out. Then I decided to take a deep breath and read one step at a time.

Gail - go to https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/signin and read the publishing guide. Look for the simplified formatting Guide. I'm not sure how I ended up there, but I learned about the table of contents at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285059

Mark - thank you. It was scary but I decided that if I went really slow and didn't try to understand more than one sentence at a time I'd get there.

Ruthmarie - Yes, and there are some things about Amazon that I don't like. But they are without a doubt the leader - at least for now.
