Greater Toronto Area - Housing Sales - Monthly Trends - December 2011
The number of sales reported in the Toronto Real Estate Board's ("TREB") MLS® over the year has seasonal trends as shown by the chart below which tracks sales in TREB's MLS® system from January 2008 to December 2011. In general, the number of sales during December tends to be the lowest during the year, while sales in the spring /summer tend to be at the highest levels. Sales during 2009 and late 2008 were lower than in recent earlier years due to conditions in the financial market.
The number of sales for December 2011 has improved compared to the same period in 2010 but is lower compared to December 2009. The number of sales is considerably higher than December 2008 which was shortly after the financial credit crisis began. Overall, the market performed very nicely during calendar 2011.
