Hidden under a few inches of snow, the gardens in Golden sleep. During the spring and summer months, the gardens around the downtown area of Golden awake and become the most popular places to walk, play, and relax in. The Friendship Garden, History Center Gardens, and Loveland Garden are conveniently located within walking distance of Clear Creek and your favorite downtown shops.
The History Center Gardens are located near the History Center, which was formerly known as the Pioneer Museum. This colorful garden backs up right to the walking path of Clear Creek and is a perfect place to find shade during the warm months with mature trees. You can take the walking path down the creek to watch Golden tubers and kyackers or find a serene spot to relax in the fresh aroma of the flowers.
The Friendship Garden is located on the opposite side of Clear Creek. Created to honor the spirit of friendship, this garden focuses on low-water using, xeric plants. Some of these plants are native to Golden too! Do not be fooled; this garden with be bright with color as well as we ease into the middle of summer. Plus, many of the xeric plants are beautiful and hearty throughout the entire year, making this a destination for autumn and winter walks.
The Loveland Garden rounds out our collection of gardens in Golden. Located on a plot of land that was originally the first storefront built in downtown Golden, this garden is an oasis. The perfect place to stop after grabbing something yummy, garden goers can enjoy the peace and beauty of this garden while watching downtown shoppers stroll by.
If you would like to walk the gardens of Golden, start at the Golden Visitors Center, head north on Washington Ave, and left on 10th to reach the History Center Gardens which are located between the Golden library and fire station. Next, follow the Clear Creek path west and cross the Billy Drew Bridge where you will find the Friendship Gardens. Finally, go east on 11th St toward downtown Golden. Turn right on Washington Ave and head south. The Loveland Garden is hidden between two buildings on the east side of the street. Come to Golden in the spring to enjoy these colorful, cultivated creations.
