Many times, homeowners dont realize how dirty their carpets or furniture are. For example, I was called to do a job by a Realtor in Rye, NY a few months ago. She was trying to sell her clients house but said that every time she showed the house to a potential buyer, they were distracted by a lingering, stale odor. The Realtor described it best, sort of a combination of pet odors and a general stale, stuffy smell.
The Realtor told me that the homeowners didn't think cleaning the carpets and furniture would make a difference, after all, it was the house that was for sale, not the furniture. After several weeks of trying to convince the homeowners to have the carpets and furniture cleaned, they finally agreed and I was called. The results were truly remarkable, not only did the smell go away, but the house looked and showed much better. The Realtor called me and said that she showed the house again to a couple that had seen it before it was cleaned. They said that the dirty furniture and carpeting, not to mention the smell, detracted from the home's charming potential.
Selling your house can be a difficult task, especially when the economy isn't in the best shape. When you show your house, you should show it in the best possible light. A lingering odor or dirty carpets can absolutely impact the impressions of potential buyers. Cleaning your carpets and upholstery is an affordable and very noticeable improvement you can make to your house.
You may even sell it faster and for more...
