New APP Takes Care of Your Social Media Sites in the Event of Your Death

Have you heard about the new APP "If I Die"?

With so much of our lives entangled on the web and with social media, I found this attached post from Mike Cooper @ Cornerstone Business Group quite interesting.

If you keep in touch with all your friends and networks on sites like Facebook, you don't have to worry about your site being frozen for all time.  Even on the internet, you can rest in peace!

There has been some discussion on social media sites about the future of your profile in the event of your untimely demise.  With a number of friends recently passing it has been a much more real question.  What happens to your social media sites in the event that you die?

Pat Kennedy, and a few others, brought this question to the forefront on Active Rain after a few members passed away, and it's a great question.  I have one friend who passed away two years ago, and her Facebook profile is still active.  I haven't had the stomach to delete it, but it probably should acknowledge her passing for those out of the area that have no idea why she doesn't respond to their posts.

On the site, Mashable Social Media, they displayed a new APP this week called, "If I Die."  This application allows three friends who have been assigned as your trustees to post to your Facebook site.  They are supposed to fulfill your last wishes.  It could be a message from you, pictures or whatever you decided to have the world know at the end.  It's a great idea, and it is definitely a modern day necessity.  Check it out.

Bud & Beth,

Yes, I just heard about it today.  I have a feeling this might get popular pretty quickly as I have some Facebook friends that seem to post every moment of their lives on social media!

It's a new world....   I guess I have found it strange to keep "friends" who have passed but it is a tribute to their life to go on their page and read all the good-bye's and messages about how they are missed.  Could our FB accounts become the new gravestone?  The place that loved ones visit to say hello and I miss you?  I think we are just figuring this all out and it will be interesting.....

You're exactly right, Amy.  It's a new world and keeps evolving.  For now, this APP might be relevant.  In 5 years, maybe not so much.

What do you do when a brother or spouse continues to manage a site with no indication that the person died? I think it's creepy.

Well, you would hope they'd change the profile photo to a memorial one and comment a final tribute or.. you're right.. would be creepy!
