Performing in Elko, Nevada at the 28th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, February 1-4, 2012, Ken Cook and his Poem, I’m Gonna be a Cowboy

I recently got the privilege of seeing my favoriteCowboy Poet, 2010 Academy of Western Artists Male Poet of the Year, Ken Cook perform one of his newer poems, I’m Gonna be a Cowboy at the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering in Prescott, AZ.  He may be performing this one and I’m sure he will share many more of his amazing creations with everyone at the28th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, February 1-4, 2012 - Elko Nevada.

Now that 2012 is officially here, it won’t be long before the best of the best in Cowboy Poetrty will be gathering to share their tales of the American Heritage of the West in Elko Nevada.  I am proud to say that my Uncle, Ken Cook has been invited to perform his original poetry works in Elko this year.  This particular poem I am sharing here is one of my favorites, and Kyle now runs Great Grandpa Buckle's old ranch as well.

This particular video is from Ken Cook’s performance at the Badger Clark Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering, September 24, 2011 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

"The poetry of Ken Cook keeps an audience alternately in stitches or tears," says Heritage of the American West Performance series producer Francie Ganje. "He is a special performer."

Ken's poetry has been featured in IM Cowgirl, Open Range and Rope Burns magazines. It is played on radio stations across the West, including Joe Baker's Backforty Bunkhouse, Jim and Andy Nelson's Clear Out West radio show, and Totsie Slover's Real West from the Old West.

His is an authentic voice, bringing a deep respect for past generations to cowboy poetry. Award-winning cowboy poet and rancher Yvonne Hollenbeck calls him "a master poet, a great entertainer, and a real cowboy." Rick Huff, Western entertainment critic, has this to say: "You do tend to hang on Ken's words, both because of the way they come at you and the
quality of their order."

Ken has recorded three spoken-word CDs that you can order by clicking here:Dad, We'll Rope Today, I'm Gonna Be a Cowboy, and his latest, Cowboys Are Like That.Cowboys Are Like That is receiving grand reviews and radio airplay around the world," says Joe Baker, AWA disc jockey of the year. "Ken is the real deal cowboy poet."

So, come see 2010 Academy of Western Artists Male Poet of the Year, Ken Cook perform, I’m Gonna be a Cowboy at the 28th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering February 1-4, 2012 - Elko Nevada
