In ActiveRain years, I'm not even 3 months old. I posted my inaugural ActiveRain blog on October 31, 2011. Since then, I’ve tried to build up some consistent blogging momentum. I started out slowly at first -- blogging about once or twice a week. Soon after, I blogged three times in one week. And, as I welcomed the arrival of 2012 by posting four blogs the first week, I thought "Cool! I'm starting to get the hang of this!" I mean ... I had so much to write about that the blogs were practically writing themselves. Then -- WHAMMO! I hit the proverbial wall. What's happening? Why can't I write? It's not that I have nothing to write about. In fact, when I first joined ActiveRain, a wise sage here told me that "Everything is a blog. You can write a blog about anything." I never forgot those words. So, what's wrong with me, Doctor Rain?
"Maybe I should go eat something?" You know, I'm thinking along the lines of Starve a Fever -- Feed a Writer's Block? Yep, that's the ticket ... I'll just go fix myself a snack! My brain cells could probably use some extra, blog-writing-enhancing nourishment anyway. So, I headed straight for the refrigerator. I spent the next hour or so eating and reading frozen food packages hoping for a miracle. Nothing.
"Maybe I’ll go watch Judge Judy." Judge Judy is my secret indulgence. It's always good for a few laughs and if nothing else, I'll get to see some people who wish their biggest problem was blog writing dysfunction. Well, a couple of hours later, my tummy was full, I had my Judge Judy fix, and I was back at the computer. Still nothing. Have my creative juices dried up already? Has my raging flow of blog writing waters diminished to a single, tiny trickle? How do I get past this obstacle?
Suddenly, a light bulb went off in my head! I thought to myself, "surely somebody on ActiveRain has written about my dilemma before." I headed straight for the Search box at the top of the page and as luck would have it, what should appear but a blog written by Mimi Foster specifically about Writer's Block. In my particular case, I found this post to be extremely helpful because it is less about brainstorming for blogging topics --and more about organizing the abundance of ideas you already have. It addresses blogging from a different perspective, and offers advice for topic selection and writing options based upon varying moments of inspiration.
BINGO! I have found a cure for what's ailing me! How? Luckily, I have access to a great network of tremendous people here on ActiveRain. And therefore, I have access to some fabulously informative blogs that were written way before I came along. Was I worried about discovering a cure? You bet! But, with this awesome group ... I just had a feeling I would find one.
