Don't Listen to “Conventional Wisdom” When It Comes to Real Estate

It's a new year, and the Marchany Team is really excited. At the same time, though, we've been thinking about how easy it is for central New Jersey home owners to fall prey to the seemingly endless bad news about real estate. Turn on the television, pick up the newspaper, listen to the radio...the real estate market a top story everywhere you look! Gil and I know how demoralizing this can be, especially if you're planning to buy or sell property any time soon.

If you believed everything you'd heard, you'd think that very few houses are selling. You'd be absolutely certain that almost no one can get a mortgage.

Well, let's set the record straight. We want you to know that neither of those assumptions is true. We're following the lead of Keeping Current Matters, which noted that recently, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) released their Existing Homes Sales Report. According to the report there are, on average, 12,109 homes selling in the United States EACH and EVERY DAY!

What does this mean to you? It means that approximately 12,000 houses sold yesterday, approximately 12,000 will sell today and approximately 12,000 will sell tomorrow. So the “news” that leads us to believe that homes aren’t selling just isn’t true.

Another interesting fact in the report was that 72% of these transactions were accompanied by a mortgage. That means that approximately 8,719 people qualify for a mortgage on a daily basis in this country.

There are over 12,000 homes sold and over 8,000 mortgages granted every day. The real estate market is doing better than many believe.

What do you think about negative real estate news stories? Leave your comments below; we'd love to hear your thoughts!
