How to Create a Custom URL for your FaceBook Business Page

Our FaceBook business page had a really long URL that I could never remember.  I had to go and find the really really long domain name every time I wanted to send a friend to the site. But using FB tools, we went from a domain name of :

http://www.facebook.com/pages/RealtyPro-Academy/242313879147842

To a domain name of:

www.facebook.com/RealtyProAcademy

Which one looks better and is simpler to remember?  Hmmm, that's a NO-BRAINER!

In our spirit of generosity and sharing our resources, I thought you may be interested in finding out how to do it quick and easy too.  So here's my instructions.  Enjoy!

How to create a personzlied URL for your FB page with your company’s name.

Step 1: At the top right of your business page, click the “Edit Page” button.

Step 2: On the left, click “Mobile” link.  Then click the link “With Mobile Web”.

Step 3. Enter your preferred name, and make it as short as possible.  Click the blue “Check Availability” button.   If the name is not available, you’ll receive the following message, and you’ll have to select another name.

Step 4. If the name is available, you’ll receive the following message.  Click the “Confirm” button.

Step 5. You’ll receive a “Success” message.  Click the blue “Okay” button.

Congratulations, it is now set up!  To view your new URL, on the left side click “Basic Information” then the new URL (domain name) will show up on the right, as a link under “Username”.

This is the nicer, shorter link that you can give out to friends and associates.

Note: After you have set it up, you'll notice that the URL option will no longer be available on the "Mobile" page.

Excellent.  I really appreciate your breaking it down into simple explainable steps.  This makes someone like me (with a short attention span) able to accomplish it.

Suzanne, it's fun and very simple to do.  It will definitely help your Google juice too!

Great Post.  How do you reclaim a username?

I had my peronal profile with a username.  I change it in order to release it and make it available for my business page, but when I tried to add it to my business page.  It is unavailable.  How long do I have to wait to reclaim it?

Luis, I don't know the answer, I've never had that happen before... maybe FB will never re-use biz names?  See if you can google the answer...

Once you have done that, did you know that you could create a custom fan page (for free) using pagemodo?

Filippo

Hello there, nice article :)

I have a question: I already have a Fan Page, but I'd like to start over (deleting this and creating a new one).

The problem is, I want to keep using my custom url. If I delete the page, will I still be able to use it, or the custom url will "freeze" forever?

Thank you

Hi Filippo, sorry but I don't know the answer.  It's nearly impossible to get a hold of customer service at FB.  So maybe try searching google for the answer?
