Active Rain Community Guidelines – Respect!

Reblogger Pacita Dimacali

As real estate professionals, we all do our part in elevating the profession in the public eye.  By behaving in the most ethical and professional manner, we manage to accomplish this, bit by bit.

Whether one is a real estate professional or not, participation on Active Rain is done -- or should be done --- with utmost respect for the community itself.

This bears repeating.

Active Rain Community Guidelines – Respect!

  Respect the Active Rain Community

Of all the ActiveRain Community Guidelines the following says it all for me. If all members fully embraced the Spirit of the Community and showed Respect, we would not need any other guidelines.

“Being a part of any community requires a certain level of trust. Don't abuse the site or your fellow members. By joining the ActiveRain community you are given a platform to present your ideas and opinions to a large number of people. We trust you to be responsible with that platform; thousands of other ActiveRain members are also counting on your trustworthiness."

Does that not say it all?  Trust means many different things to different people.  Trust means everything to me. If I cannot trust you, then we have nothing.  If you cannot trust me, then how can I possibly serve you as a client or be a friend?  It does not take anyone a long time to figure this out about me.  Believe me, it's no secret!

As a San Jose Real Estate Agent I trust that my clients will be honest with me.  If I discover that a client has not been honest with me, then my trust in them is broken.  It causes me to question, what else have they not told me?

In a community like ActiveRain, once trust is broken with a member, I simply play doctor and call “time of death.”  I cease my communication with the member. I unsubscribe to their blog and I delete any comments they make on my blog.  When I say trust is everything to me - I mean it!

If Trust is violated then there is no Respect

Sadly that has happened several times with members. However, for the most part, the ActiveRain community is packed with trustworthy, respectful professionals that I do not hesitate to refer my clients to.  It's an added bonus to reading and commenting on their posts; learning; and helping other members. I've made a lot of friends in the Rain and have many advocates and supporters.  It's what comes from trust and respect!

No better time have members been challeged to write about community guidelines.  No worse violation of TRUST and RESPECT than what J. Philip Faranda addresses in his post:

The Integrity of the Active Rain Real Estate Network

Hi Pacita:  Nice of you to re-blog this to get the word out.  With so many members the more times the re-blog the better.

Hi Pacita,  There are always a few who don't behave as we would like them to.  A physician friend of mine says we should "refer them up"  to someone who specializes in that behavior.  Here is wishing you a year of people you can trust!

Jane --- I think a few of us got a chance to reblog before it was turned back to Members Only

Marge --- "Refer up..." that's really clever. Thanks for sharing.

Without Trust and Respect, you have nothing.  In the Marine Corps we call it HONOR!  Thanks for your repost of Kathleen's reminder of what's really important.

If you blog long enough and often enough...you are likely to run into someone who likes to "pull your pigtails"...not professional, exasperating...wondering what they get out of it....and eventually they disappear into the blogosphere....and things go back to the way they were before their rude interruption.

Pacita,  Thank you for the re-blog. This too shall pass.  We will have had our voice heard before the member behaving badly walks a free man. He won't be the first to "get away with murder" and he won't be the last.  Our belief and trust was killed by what was done. Our confidence in the staff is weakened as a result of how it was handled.  We will power on in life.  Thank you for your support in this endeavor.  Most of us have character!

Sally and David -- funny you should mention that some folks will "pull your pigtails" because I've had a couple of those who'd postulate on my blog instead of writing their own. They prefer to lecture via comments, but not courageous enough to to present their own position and invite others to comment.

Kathleen -- I think people have gotten the message. Hopefully Seattle will do the right thing
