January is National Blood Donor Month

The American Red Cross needs to collect 22,000 units of blood each weekday and around 15,000 units each weekend to meet patient needs. Every two seconds, someone needs blood.

My son, Carlson Muss, has been donating blood to the American Red Cross on a regular basis for over two years. I blogged about it on December 30, 2009 when there was a blood drive sponsored by a local coffee shop.

Great video and a great cause. Kudos to Carlson for being so caring. It's unfortunate that some people, like me, can not donate blood due to immune problems; wish I could because it is so needed.

Carla, One of my favorite pay it forward activities. Dropping a pint off is good for the donor, and a remarkable lifesaving gift for the recipients. Our local blood bank sends the donors a letter that lets you know in general terms where your last donation went. My last pint went to the local Children's Hospital. If that doesn't sober you up to the realities of life in a heartbeat....and why it's so important to give when we can. Bill

How very nice of you to call attention to this drive. I haven't donated lately, but I have been called several times in the past (I have AB Positive). My nephew works for American Red Cross in the IT department. And it's his job to make sure all the field teams are fully supported. Guess with this drive, he'll be putting in very long hours.
