SANTA BEAR
After 23 years of bringing Christmas joy into the lives of many shoppers at Dayton's and the gift recipients of the aforementioned group, Santa Bear will be put into hibernation on a permanent basis. It used to be that shoppers would wait in line the day after Thanksgiving to get that year's dated Santa Bear. Dayton's Department stores later became Marshall Field's and are now part of the Macy's chain. My family used to visit the downtown Minneapolis Dayton's every year to see their fabulous display window and floor Christmas decor.
I have several Santa Bears and Miss Bear as well, along with Santa Bear in an aviator costume and his cardboard bi-plane. Macy's plans to issue a collector's edition family set this year. It will be Santa Bear , Mrs. Bear (apparently they got married) and twins Berry and Belle. All four will be dressed in flannel pajamas with a picture of all 22 previous Santa Bears on them. You can stand in line , one last time, the day after Thanksgiving and get yours. I will just send money with my husband's aunt - she has every bear - I am sure she will be first in line.
I will now be using faux Santa Bears for my seasonal decorating services - these guys will be worth big bucks some day and I can retire from staging!!!!! Thank you, Santa Bear.
