This Blue Heron was checking out the Occoquan River yesterday while I was showing waterfront property. Considering it was in the 30's it takes grit to want to fly into the water to catch dinner.

Kathy-we have a few of the human variety that seem to be out in all kinds of weather as well.
Peggy-I was cold standing on the back porch of the house I was showing taking the photo. The Blue Heron was unfazed.
Dick-ours seem to stay year round. We have plenty of Eagles around now as well.
Bill-they are fairly skittish but as long as you wait patiently they seem to stay around to pose for a picture.
Rob-I can guarantee is is not in the 80's right now. I'm sure you are having the cold snap as well.
Marie-I didn't think of that initially but as you point out it could be a good metaphor for agents succeeding in todays market.
Ken-fortunately the Occoquan River does not freeze over so the Heron's and Eagles fish year round.
Cindy, we have the Great Blue Heron here in Redding. We live near the Sacramento River and we see them fishing the River. They are quite the "hunter". Someday, I will be in the right spot and prepared to capture it all! Happy Sunday!
I love wildlife and I especially love experiencing it up close. "Your" heron is a perfect, beautiful example of nature up close. It never gets boring to me.
Jeanean-until I moved next to a river I had no idea they stayed around all winter. Hopefully you'll catch one fishing soon.
Susanna-I'm still trying to catch a photo of our local coyote but he is elusive during the day.
Oh, just the thought of jumping in that cold water would keep me from wanting to eat. Realtors need to be die hard fishermen in this market.
Kay yes today's Realtor® needs to work through tough times. We can learn a few lessons from sticking it out even when we know it's tough out there.
Cindy - we have Great Blue Herons fish in the river in our back yard but I have never been able to get a picture as good as yours ..... ours are very skittish
Kathy-I have a decent telephoto lens so I don't have to get as close as it apears. Though I can usually get within 25 feet. Stealth mode.

Michael it was sunny but only in the 30's when I snapped the photo. Loved his little plume of a headdress.
