Overrated and Underrated. January 15, 2012

Oops.

It's been a while since I put out an Overrated and Underrated. I'll try to be better about it. I don't know if I will be, but I'll try.

Overrated - Looking at homes in the dark. There are a few reasons for this. First, you can't really see anything on the outside of the house. Even with flashlights, it's still difficult to see the condition of the roof, siding, chimney, etc. Second, you can't see how the rest of the neighborhood stacks up to what you're looking for. Next is that once inside, even with normal lighting, there's things that will look differently once viewed in the daylight hours. Like paint and carpet colors, stains, etc. There'll be shadows that make some things harder to see unless there's natural light. Plus, you'll want to come back and see the house in the daylight again anyway, wasting both of our time.

***To be fair about looking at homes in the dark, there are times when there's no way around it. I do what I need to do for my clients. If you can't get off of work until it's dark out, we'll do the best we can.

Underrated - The butter on movie theater popcorn. It's awesome, isn't it? I haven't been to the movies in a long, long time, but while I'm taking some time off for the shoulder to heal, I'm going to go the the movies. And have a giant tub of heavily buttered popcorn. Can you hear my arteries screaming already?

Talk to you later...

I concur with both points. I just had to show a house in the dark last week. I normally never do that for just the reasons you pointed out. But this time it couldn't be helped.

And have you ever noticed that the "movie theater butter" on the microwave stuff just doesn't cut it? I got these really cool bowl things that are supposed to make it convenient. But it sucked. LOL

Eric,

I'm not a fan of showing homes this time of year. It's dark at 5 PM and it almost always requires a second showing.

I have to go and make some popcorn now.

Eric, Not a fan of dark showings either, but this time of year often can't be helped.  And Liz never allows extra butter on the movie popcorn :(

Also, one wrong step in a home with no lights could mean a broken ankle real quick. (It just isn't worth it)

I'm not a fan of showing homes in the dark either.  I am also a BIG fan of movie theater popcorn.

I agree....the only time night viewing is good is when you have a fantastic view to highlight.

As for popcorn...I get popcorn and coke when I'm at the movies --- it just doesn't seem right without it when one is in a real theater. It's in memory of my movie-going days as a kid. But at home, I get Orville Redenbacher's kettle korn (sweet and salty).

I'm with Pacita, Eric, city views at night are a good reason to "show in the dark" - but I'm loving your underrated option - movie popcorn with butter ROCKS!

Hey everyone! Looks like we're all in agreement here. Showing homes in the dark isn't fun and movie theater popcorn with Butter is awesome!

Pacita, I've tried kettle corn a couple times and didn't really like it. I'm glad someone does or the store shelves would be really packed with it!

Lisa, thanks! I wish I could come up with more. When I sit down to write them my mind goes blank.

Eric ~ I can just smell that popcorn butter!  mmmmmmmmm!  And I dislike dark showing, so I have my handy dandy flashligh in my car, but that still only helps a small amount.

Dawn, I carry a pretty decent flashlight, too, but it's just never the same.
