How secure are you with your identity?

If you sometimes question who you are and what you are capable of,  we have a vivid illustration that you are not alone!

Woodpecker at hummingbird feeder

This photo shows a common humming bird feeder with a woodpecker feeding at it.

As you can imagine this created some conflicts.  The hummingbirds did not appreciate sharing.  They don't generally share well with each other much less a much larger bird.

How the woodpecker started frequenting the feeder we are not sure.  What we do know is that he had quite a sweet beak!  He also was determined to drink the nectar.  His size consistantly caused problems. At least once a day his weight would work the feeder loose, and all the nectar would spill out on the ground. This served the ants well!

This program went on for an entire migrational cycle.  We love having all the birds and attempt to keep this feeder filled for all takers.

We found it interesting that even in the world of feathered friends,  there are innovators.  There are also birds with a streak of attitude.

If you have days when you aspire to be something you are not,  take heart!  It can be done.  It does have a price,  but if you are having difficulty finding your niche,  persevere!

Birds of a feather do not always have to flock together.

Ralph and Jeanne, now that's something that's interesting!  That little woodpecker was visiting the candy store!  I can just imagine the little hummingbird trying to chase him off, they are quite ferocious for a tiny little bird, aren't they?
