The importance of having a coach.

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

For the rest of my life, when I hear anyone speak about the difficulties they've encountered as a self-employed member of our society, I will ask them one question. "Who holds you accountable?"

Surely you aren't relying solely upon yourself for guidance, leadership, and motivation. While some of us consider ourselves to be "self-starters", how many of us truly hop out of bed with a big smile on our face each morning and skip to the coffeepot?

If you are new to the business, you need a mentor, coach, strategist, or whatever title you desire. You need someone to show you the way, or at least to point you in the right direction.

If you have been in the business for twenty years, you're obviously doing something right. But what would an extra set of professional ideas and guidance do for your business? What if you had someone who took an interest in your business with the sole purpose of helping you work smarter?

Thankfully, my company strongly encourages peer mentoring, and that has affected my business more than any product or marketing system ever could.

So let this blog serve as a thank you to my coach. For keeping me on task, and pointed in the right direction, even when I become buried in the sometimes mundane tasks we as REALTORS tend to experience.

If you don't have a coach, or a mentor, you should have one. If it means changing companies, so be it. Even if it isn't my company, that's fine, find a place that will truly take an interest in who you are and what you want your business to be. And that will help you achieve.

Thanks Christi!

Matthew,

I totally agree. I made 2 very important changes in 2007. The first, seek out a coach and mentor that knew my business and could offer sage advice. The second, become an active Networker. The two combined have given me greater control and confidence in a changing industry.

Mat,

Great post!  I totally agree.  You definitely need someone to hold you accountable in this business.  Way to go in getting someone.

Mattt,

You make a great point.  In the years since starting in this business my mentor has been so much help. We as ind. can only see things from our limited point of view.  I would not be as confident and prepared in the inspection industry without one.

Keep your Guns Up!
