No, You Can't Bring Your Pet Gator To Go Shopping....Things You See In Florida!

No, you can't bring your pet gator to go shopping....read the sign, please!

Barbara-o's Beach Blog,ClearwaterFloridaRealEstateBlog.comRon and I went to the flea market in Oldsmar Florida yesterday. I wanted to purchase a couple of carpet runners and figured the Turkish stalls at the local flea market was probably a pretty good place to look.

As we were entering the flea market, I noticed this sign for the first time in my life! I am sure it has been there forever, but I never noticed it before. Being the blogger that I am, I had to take out my iPhone and photograph it!

I wonder if somebody from another part of the country or even from overseas would read this sign and think that here in Florida, we bringBarbara-Jo's Beach Blog,ClearwaterFloridaRealEstatelog.com our pet gator or iguanas with us when we go shopping! No, generally, we leave them at home so they can play with our pet dogs and cats!

Just one more thing about Florida that I am willing to bet you did not know!

Oh, and I did find the carpet runners I was looking for at a price that was absolutely fantastic, so it was a win-win kind of day!

How others perceive us Americans always remains a fascinating subject. One day, I was at the beach very early and from a distance, I saw a lone figure approaching my way. As the woman got closer, I noticed she was topless. After a brief conversation, it was revealed she is from Europe on vacation. Topless over there on some beaches is the norm...In my neck of the woods...quite the opposite...

Profit from my two decades of experience

Barbara-definitely a geographical thing, we don't see many reptiles on or off leash in our malls in the Pacific Northwest. LOL.

That would definitely be a sign that would cause some double takes, snickers....and yep, the realization that you've GOT to get a picture! Too funny!

Richie - yes, when I lived in Europe (and was A WHOLE LOT YOUNGER) I used to go topless as well at the beach; not a big deal over there.

Adrian - we don't here either - most people keep them at home.

Nancy - yes, I couldn't resist the temptation!

Let it Rain!

I would be a bit scared at first but with the "No Reptiles Allowed" feel much safer.  I absolutely hate when people bring their snakes to outdoor festivals.  Not cool!

Barbara-Jo, that was absolutely great.  And, how about when the buyers bring pets to the open houses....there's another idea for you.

Hi Barbara-Jo, I've seen people carry some strange things around with them including animals that I would not want to get too close to so I can't fault the fleamarket to put up a sign like that.

Silvia - yes, Florida is a state where you never know what you are going to see............

Georgina - actually, we had a pet iguana named Chico when I was growing up. He would sit on the sofa and watch tv with me. We also had a pet raccoon (not at the same time as the iguana)............

Hi Barbara-Jo,

Amazing what people feel comfortable with on their shoulders, their couches or just around them. In the 80s while at Laguna Beach I saw a guy with a possum on his shoulder like he was a parrot…The good thing is you got your carpet runners!

I miss that part of Florida.
