Is ActiveRain the Online Coffee Shop for Real Estate Professionals?

Is ActiveRain the online coffee shop for real estate professionals? From what I understand, many RainMakers schedule time each morning with their coffee in hand to check their emails, update themselves on current events, and blog about their business activities. When you log into ActiveRain you can always expect to find an interesting story or development. There is a lot of business that happens here, but as a social network, there is also a lot of socializing, chatting, and even sometimes some drama going on in the 219k strong community.

In the video below by Steven Johnson "Where Good Ideas Come From" he describes the internet as the modern day coffee shop, which got me thinking about how this applies to ActiveRain. As I see it, blogging is not so much a distraction from your day-to-day business, it is an opportunity to collaborate and create business in ways that where not possible before the web. Learning and sharing with a community that is much larger than your own office, you have access to information about best business practices across the country (and Canada). You can post your ideas out there for feedback or share your knowledge with other members. Over the last several years, there have been millions of blog posts put up on ActiveRain that cover the gamut of topics. You only need to utilize the search feature to pull up blogs on any given real estate topic, either for research, or inspiration.

So the next time you pour yourself a coffee (or tea) and sit down to blog, you will find yourself sitting at the online coffee shop where the next big things are being discussed, be it the ongoing development of the internet's role in Real estate business, or that funny thing that happened to that agent in California ; )

  • What kind of environment gives you your best business ideas?
  • What kind of environment are you creating on the Web?

Happy Blogging!

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

Good morning Devin,

So true, I find my AR time as my coffe shop chatter or around the water cooler at the office (so to speak).  The community blog offers a great variety of tips, tricks, what to do (or not) and a little "letting off some steam".

The AR platform is a tool. Information delivery media system but one of many to tap in to the power of the Internet. If you only reblog other people's work, spend little time with slap dash copy and pasting a market report, then you are wasting the experience for real SEO. To capture a larger audience to connect, engage with that can relate to your flow of recycled electrons, images, video embeds and maps, graphics, helpful time, gas saving links. Create the experience here, wherever you are and cross pollinate your other media efforts to end up higher on the search engine index query. It's not a hobby. It's survival when you wear the blue and gold "R", the hardest by far working letter in the alphabet.

Innovation, creativity and apart from the herd trail blazing happens when you don't watch and just replicate, chameleon copy. But treat it all like a passionate sport. Like love that wants all of you, real estate, area community marketing is a jealous master.

Devin - I like the analogy of the online coffee shop...sometimes it feels that way.  And other times I feel as though I am in school learning so much from others here on ActiveRain.

Bringing you home...

There are many on Active Rain that I'd love to sit down and have coffee with. Thank goodness for the Internet or I wouldn't even know that I'd love to meet them in person one day.
