Is ActiveRain the online coffee shop for real estate professionals? From what I understand, many RainMakers schedule time each morning with their coffee in hand to check their emails, update themselves on current events, and blog about their business activities. When you log into ActiveRain you can always expect to find an interesting story or development. There is a lot of business that happens here, but as a social network, there is also a lot of socializing, chatting, and even sometimes some drama going on in the 219k strong community.
In the video below by Steven Johnson "Where Good Ideas Come From" he describes the internet as the modern day coffee shop, which got me thinking about how this applies to ActiveRain. As I see it, blogging is not so much a distraction from your day-to-day business, it is an opportunity to collaborate and create business in ways that where not possible before the web. Learning and sharing with a community that is much larger than your own office, you have access to information about best business practices across the country (and Canada). You can post your ideas out there for feedback or share your knowledge with other members. Over the last several years, there have been millions of blog posts put up on ActiveRain that cover the gamut of topics. You only need to utilize the search feature to pull up blogs on any given real estate topic, either for research, or inspiration.
So the next time you pour yourself a coffee (or tea) and sit down to blog, you will find yourself sitting at the online coffee shop where the next big things are being discussed, be it the ongoing development of the internet's role in Real estate business, or that funny thing that happened to that agent in California ; )
