Are you considering moving to Los Angeles, CA?

If you are considering moving to Los Angeles, CA there are many factors you need to consider. One of these factors happens to be:  The Cost of Living compared to where you are currently living. In other words you need to know   what your costs are in the city you are living in and what the typical salary of your type of employment is in Los Angeles, CA. Therefore if you have the same type of job in a similar capacity what will your salary be at the new location here in Los Angeles.

Another important consideration is what will your net change of disposable income be? Will this be more or less? I found this great website called   http://www.salary.com/mysalary.asp. The site allows you to input any metropolitan area city & state where you currently live and work as well as where you plan on living and working. It was a fantastic simple and user friendly website.

Endre, thanks for sharing this great site with us.  Many years ago, I was asked to relocate by the corporation I was working at.  They offered me a 33% increase in pay, which I thought was HUGE.  Then, I looked at housing prices - not so good.  People should call Endre Barath if they are looking at relocating to Los Angeles.  There's a lot of hidden costs and you can help then get a great analysis of the pros and cons.

Hi Endre -- sticker shock can certainly be a factor to those relocating to Southern California from many areas of the country.   Of course, you are likely to save some on snow removal.

Juli, when we relocated there was no Salary.com we did our own research with all that it still cost us more than what we anticipated. First we needed two cars. In Boston,MA one was sufficient:) and I could go on and on...

Jennifer from Manhattan it will be an easy relocation just need to get used to driving vs walking:)

Endre, coming from Chicago I'm used to high property taxes.  So when I moved to Alabama of course taxes were a concern...it's like a mortgage payment in the windy city.  Anyway, when I asked about property taxes here in Alabama when searching for a home I was always told not to worry that it was a none issue.  Anyway as it turned out my property taxes here are 10 times less than in Chicago...nice surprise.  However, if my direction of relocation was reversed I wound have been in for a hell of a shock...best to find these thing out first.

Endre,  What a great tool this is for people looking to relocate.  This is good advice considering the cost diffences to live in different areas of the country that people may not be aware of.
