What Is A Slab Inspection?

If you are building a house, your real estate agent may inform you that you have the option to have independent inspections along the way. Some buyers are comfortable with the county inspections and the builder's quality control, but others choose to hire their own inspector.

A slab inspection is the first inspection, and involves checking the framework around the house, the layout of the plumbing, measuring the house and checking the levels both on the frame and the dirt floor where the concrete slab will be poured.

It took about two hours for this house, which is about 2300 square feet. Here are some photos showing some of the inspection.

I think intermediate inspections during the building of a new home are imperative. I always recommend the practice.

Frank and Sharon, I'm a firm believer that you never ever depend on a county inspector!  Hiring your own is the way to go.

Jon, I do as well, but few want to do it.

Greg, I'll definitely explain more.

Pat, you are so right. They are spread very thin and can't possibly do what the inspector did.

Frank, Thanks for the post. I don't do a lot of new homes but have always believed that  independent inspections are "preventive medicine" for the new home buyer.
