For the Buyers:
Now is a great time to look for a new home. Here’s a few of the reasons why. The majority of home buyers plan to move over the summer. The most common reason is that the children are out of school. Of course you can’t forget that moving boxes in the snow and ice is a challenge. Even though it may be inconvenient for you to move right now, if you were to put in a contract now you likely wouldn’t be moving in until March or maybe even April. Hopefully that will be right when it starts to warm up a bit around here. Either way you will get to enjoy your entire summer in your new home. If you are moving closer to work, that means more flexibility in your budget for summer fun. So it’s time to get back out there and negotiate NOW before the sellers decide it would be better to wait for the spring influx of buyers rather than accept your offer.
For the Sellers:
So hopefully you have recovered from the holidays because, it is time to get to work making your house ready to sell. First and foremost is cleaning (I know it’s not spring yet). A clean space is one of the best ways to showcase your house in the best possible light with minimal investment.
I know the economy is tough right now so you may not have it in your budget to totally renovate your house. There are some inexpensive things you can do to make your house more appealing. Spending a few minutes determining what can be put away to minimize distractions is a great idea! Let’s face it you probably have a cute family picture, baby picture or other portraits scattered throughout your home. The point I am trying to make is that buyers will notice and typically be distracted by your lovely family portraits. Storing them neatly away will help the buyers focus on what is important, the house! You want a sort of generic look to appeal to as many different tastes and styles as possible. One area that is overlooked rather often is the refrigerator! Almost everyone has something hanging on the front or side of the fridge. It’s a convenient place to post schedules, show off art, or display your collection of 50,000 magnets. You are going to want to remove everything from the exterior of the fridge. It gives a cleaner appearance and makes the kitchen look bigger and that is a BIG point for buyers. Since we are talking about kitchens, the next thing to look for is unnecessary appliances on the counter. The rule of thumb is if you don’t use it every day put it away. It really changes the way your kitchen will be perceived by buyers. Will they think it looks small and cramped or spacious and functional?
