Since its founding, in 1913, San Marino has been home to some of the most beautiful estate properties in the state of California.   It is home to the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, the former home of Henry Huntington.   The 30 acre Lacy Park acts as a community gathering place as does the Crowell Public Library that opened in January 2008.  The San Marino School District has two elementary schools(Valentine and Carver), one middle school(Huntington) and high school(San Marino High School) with a nationwide reputation for excellence.

San Marino has single family homes only with no apartments, condominiums or townhomes within city limits.  For more information regarding the city statistics and demographics, please see the city website:

Don -- while not as famous or as large in population as its northern neighbor, Pasadena, San Marino's small size, convenient location and desired amenities make it a great match as a move-up destination in the San Gabriel Valley.

Laura - thanks for stopping by and your comments - I really appreciate it.

Hi Michael.  Sounds like San Marino must be a very nice community.  The median home prices indicate very high end homes.  I would love to drive through there and look at the beautiful home.

Hi John - thanks very much for the kind words.

Belinda - although the median home prices in San Marino are higher than many of the surrounding cities, you will get a lot more for your homebuying dollar than comparable neigborhoods on the Westside of Los Angeles.   I think you would enjoy the drive through some of the city's leafy and distinctive neighborhoods.

Not a huge change for such an upscale market, Michael.  And you are right about value for the dollar as compared to the Westside.

Jane -- as for change, San Marino hasn't experienced either the swing in prices nor the number of units sold as the Westside of Los Angeles --- I think the number of homes occupied by the same families for decades is higher than the Westside too(no statistics to cite, just observing and listening).
