Gig Harbor Snow Storm January 2012

So we are on day 6 of this epic Northwest snow storm and there is an end in sight, but it just seems to be getting pushed back further and further. Tonight was the first time I left the house and it was glorious, but very hard to get up our hill. I always bragged about my Honda Accord having amazing powers to get anywhere in the snow. Today the snow and ice won! We had to put chains on Bessy for the first time! We finally made it up our hill and are safe and sound and we now have power. That has been touch and go all day too. This snow storm has made a mess of things, but there is much beauty in what it has left behind.

It's supposed to finally be gone tomorrow and I am ready for this to be over. I always get excited for it's appearance and then very excited when it is time to go. This is one of the worst snow storms I have ever seen here! I hope this is it for the season.

It has been very strange. Unlike any snow storm I have ever seen up here. It is supposed to out of here tomorrow, but now we have flood warnings and high winds coming in with the next storm. It's gonna be a crazy weekend!

Hang in there!  All of our moisture from this storm has turned to rain for us, major flooding.

You guys have been slammed like we were here on Long Island last year. We had 30" the week before Christmas... another 30" the week following Christmas and yet another major 3 day blizzard in January. We had 90" plus last winter.

This year we saw a 1/2" on October 28th. Snow before our first frost...before Halloween. That is the only thing we have seen here so far except for a few flurries this afternoon. It has felt like SPRING.

Be safe out there !!!

My goodness that's a lot of snow! We didn't get quite that much, but we normally don't get a whole lot of snow. The biggest problem this time is that we got a freaky ice storm after the major snow, which has crippled the entire western washington area. You can't compete with ice. They have been pretty good about clearing the major roads, but the side roads are frozen. I live on this huge steep hill and had to chain up tonight to get back up! We made it home and now the power is flickering again. I hate when the power goes out! Hopefully we will be able to keep it on through the night! I am glad it feels like spring somewhere!

Your photos make it look like a winter wonderland... and it was pretty, but dang it sure was a mess wasn't it. I'm on a big hill to and just got out late yesterday afternoon. First time since Monday. I think the scariest thing was hearing all the icicles crashing last night as it warmed up. I'm on the ground floor with 2 stories above me!

I am glad you made it through! Hubby had to take the south worth ferry to get to work because the Narrows Bridge was closed for so long due to falling ice. I saw some pictures of the ice that was falling and it was HUGE! I am glad they looked out for everyone's safety, even though it was a major inconvenience. I am ready for things to get back to normal.

Stacia -

It's been the oddest weather this winter.  We are much drier than normal even for the desert and could sure use just a little moisture!  Be safe.

Best regards for a great day in all you do.
