A GYM FULL OF KIDS, A BASKETBALL GAME AND A NEW TRADITION ~ THE SILENT TREATMENT ~

The Wilsonville High School's basketball team began a new tradition of "Silent Night" last Friday night when they played rival Sherwood High School.

Can you imagine sitting at a good basketball game, talented ball players running up and down the court, adrenaline running amok, points being scored and getting the silent treatment?  What would you think if you did not understand what was happening.

The crowd is to remain silent until the Wildcats score their 10th point!  Well here it is and once the team scores that 10th point the object is to have the crowd go into a loud roar, be a little wild and scream for the rest of the game.

Pretty cool and obviously very fun.  Kids !

Brenda I was not at the game but I can only imagine the other team and their students must have been wondering just a little.  Pretty fun thing to do.

Myrl when I saw the headline of the video I was very curious because kids are never quiet in my experience and whats more neither are the parents maybe even more so. LOL

Connie I don't know who came up with the idea, but I think it was brilliant and a whole lot of fun and probably even more fun was watching the looks of wonder on the faces of the opposing team.

Cheryl, it would have been difficult for me too.  My tendancy is to let it out.  It did look to be fun and I really would have liked to have seen the looks on people's faces who were not in on the "game".

Mary~This brings about goose bumps! The video was PERFECT. I loved watching the points add up, hear the sounds of the squeeking shoes and then the cricket--too cute--and THEN....WOOWWWWW! What a boost that gives to Wilson's team and it's got to rattle the opposing team, TOO!Brilliant idea.

I used to manage an AM-PM right across the street from Wilson High School many many moons ago. I was a mere 26 yrs. old. It's no longer there.

Hi Richard, I felt it was very interesting as well.  I have been around those kids and to keep their silence for that amount of time must have been a real test of will.

Hi Gayle, I really loved the whole concept and that they honestly managed it.  I was not at that particular game but Wilsonville has a good team this year, well for the last several years.  They are not in the AAA league I think but the next one down.  I am not sure and always get mixed up.  It has to do with population of schools I think.

Tension - the silence makes it all the more riveting. What a great capture of the moment. Hope you're doing well Mary and thanks for the BD wishes - hugs to you and I hope we'll get to know one another better in 2012. :)

Debb you are right I think the silence does make it more riveting.  I love the energy that the high school games creat anyway and this just seem a little more exciting.
